Lady Librarian

"Would we know that the major chords were sweet,
If there were no minor key?
Would the painter's work be fair to our eyes,
Without shade on land or sea?

"Would we know the meaning of happiness,
Would we feel that the day was bright,
If we'd never known what it was to grieve,
Nor gazed on the dark of night?"

Many men owe the grandeur of their lives to their tremendous difficulties. --C. H. Spurgeon

Greetings friends! Mitzi here, quoting you from my new summer read "Streams in the Desert". It's actually a Christian devotional book which has been helping me a great deal this summer. On a lark, I decided to volunteer part time at my town library. This book just popped out at me from the dusty shelves. (I know, I know, never judge a book by it's cover) With it's artistic and stylized design, I couldn't resist!

In addition to reading this devotional, I am enjoying chatting with the locals, helping them find the books they's like to read this summer. Sometimes one will bring me an ice cold lemonade to sip while i sit by the fan and wait for the next patron. My favorite part of the job in stamping the inside cover of a book with a fresh new date. I know it's a small joy, but it brings a smile to my face. I also love discussing books, and recommending them to the patrons. I hope you are all enjoying your summers as much as I am!
Happy reading!

The Fabulous Fourth!

Forgive me for not writing in a while. I have been very busy this summer. Despite the bouts of rain I have been enjoying my time in the lake, picnicking, and spending time with dear friends and family.  We have had some sunny, wonderful days. On the fourth of July I got all decked out to show how proud I am to be from the Good ole' USA. I don't normally participate in such patriotic endeavors, but my grandfather was a veteran of Pearl Harbor, and I also happen to like any reason to get all dressed up! After a cookout featuring home-churned ice cream, I looked to the sky to see a magnificent fireworks show. Thanks to all of those who serve and continue to serve this country. And never take a good fireworks display for granted. Happy Fourth of July!

Maine: A Memorial Day Memoir

For my first foray "out of the closet", I spent a memorable Memorial Day Weekend on the scenic coast of Maine. I meandered up and down Route 1, poking my head in at various antique shops and roadside stands. One of my favorites is an outdoor center that sells statues and planters, gargoyles and angels, and lovely benches with which to decorate one's garden.
I happened upon a quaint lobster shack where I placed my order, and the kitchen sent the order over to another shack via clothesline. There I enjoyed a succulent Maine lobster, complete with clams and corn on the cob. I listened to the cries of the seagulls swooping overhead, and felt the salty sea spray on my face.
Maine truly is a wonderful place, and so far I think I'm going to love my new life.

Hello World!

Hello World! Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Mitzti. I'm a mannequin head, a "nobody" if you will, who was discovered in a bedroom closet. I was hidden behind an old printer, a TV, various casserole dishes, and some unused handbags. My formerly adoptive person was cleaning out the house in which I was stashed to prepare for a yard sale with her siblings. Twenty years ago I was brought into that house when she was a rebellious teenager. She found me at a Goodwill and decided she MUST have me, for ironic purposes. Then she left for college. I didn't make it out with her; I've been buried in the back of her childhood closet and long forgotten.
Now, that same rebellious teen has grown up. She, along with her siblings, have decided to give me a life! They have big plans for me! Whoo-hoo! I am now going to get to go on all the adventures I had dreamed of while collecting dust in that closet.
